McLaren 650S Spider
2016 McLAREN 650S SPIDER: Every panel, every surface, every detail of the 2016 McLaren 650S Spider has been crafted to maximize its exotic, aerodynamic shape. A step forward this year is the addition of a retractable hardtop that retains the McLaren 650S dynamics when open or closed. Bringing the McLaren 650S Spider to life is the all-aluminum,641-horsepower 3.8-liter V-8 twin turbocharged engine that can push this super car to a staggering 0-to-60 mph in 2.9-seconds and top speed of 204-mph. The engine is mated with a seven-speed seamless-shift gearbox. McLaren engineers ensured that the Spider's drag increase is minimal at only 3% with the roof down. The exterior's low front accelerates airflow below the car, creating down force that maximizes traction and cornering ability. The McLaren 650S Spider's roof can be raised or lowered in less than 17 seconds at the push of a button and can do so at speeds of up to 19-mph. The twin-turbo V-8 is visible whether the roof is open or closed due to the Spider's clever tonneau cover. McLaren credits its Formula 1 experience for the inspiration of incorporating a flat underside and rear diffuser on the 650S for significant levels of down force. Stomp down on the carbon ceramic brakes and the Airbrake deploys for even mightier stopping power. An exclusive Carbon Black Alcantara cockpit provides high level of grip and unparalleled comfort. A huge part of the reason for the McLaren 650S Spider feeling so intimately connected to the road is the carbon fiber MonoCell at its core, which McLaren pioneered in Formula 1. The example on display during the 2016 Chicago Auto Show (Feb. 13-21) has a base MSRP of $284,500.
