2017 Ford Explorer: The 2017 Ford Explorer is a seven-seat crossover SUV that competes with vehicles like the Chevrolet Traverse, Dodge Durango, Honda Pilot, Hyundai Santa Fe, Nissan Pathfinder and Toyota Highlander. New for 2017 is an available appearance package.The Explorer is offered with three engine choices. The first is a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 290 horsepower. Next is a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 280 horsepower. There's also a twin-turbocharged, 365-horsepower V6. All three engines mate to six-speed automatic transmissions. The base engine is available with front- or four-wheel-drive, as is the 2.3-liter, and the twin-turbocharged V6 is only available with four-wheel drive. The 3.-5-liter V6 has EPA-estimated fuel economy numbers of 17 mpg city and 24 mpg highway with front-wheel drive and 16/23 with four-wheel drive. The 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder has numbers of 19/27 and 18/25 with four-wheel drive. The twin-turbocharged V6 has numbers of 16/22.The Explorer is offered in five trims: Base, XLT, Limited, Sport and Platinum. Available features include infotainment system, hands-free power liftgate, USB ports, navigation system, adaptive cruise control and satellite radio.Available safety features include blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, rear park assist, lane-keep assist, traction control, stability control and rear cross-traffic alert. Other available features include anti-lock brakes, inflatable rear seatbelts; dual-front, front side-impact, side-curtain and knee airbags.The 2017 Ford Explorer starts at $31,660, not including destination and delivery fees.
