2021 Nissan Leaf: The Leaf is an all-electric vehicle that seats 5 passengers and is offered only as a 4-door hatchback. Last year, Nissan gave Leaf a big upgrade and added an extended-range model as well as two pedestrian safety sounds and semi-autonomous driving and safety tech. Competitors include the BMW i3, Chevrolet Bolt EV and Tesla Model 3.

All Leaf models offer front-wheel drive. Trims include S, SV, SL, S Plus, SV Plus, and SL Plus. Standard Leaf models get a 100-kilowatt electric motor powered by a 40-kWh lithium-ion battery that produces 147 horsepower and a range of 151 miles. Leaf Plus models get a 62-kWh battery that produces 215 horsepower in and a range of 226.

Available driver-assist technology includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, rearview camera with cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, frontal collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high-beam headlights. Pricing ranges from $32,000 to $44,000.
