2021 Subaru Forester: Subaru's Forester is a compact crossover that seats 5 and comes only as a 4-door wagon. It was most recently redesigned in 2019 and changes for 2021 include turn-following headlights and a shuffling of standard equipment. Competitors include the Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Jeep Compass, Mazda CX-5, Nissan Rogue, Toyota RAV4 and Volkswagen Tiguan.

Offered only with all-wheel drive, Forester comes in Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring trim. All get a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder that makes 182 horsepower and pairs to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Maximum towing capacity is rated at 1,500 pounds.

Available driver-assist technology includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, rearview camera with cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, frontal collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high-beam headlights. Pricing ranges from $27,000 to $37,000.
