2021 Volkswagen Golf: Golf is a compact car that seats 5 and is only available as a 4-door hatchback. Also offered is GTI, a hot hatch variant of the Golf. With the arrival of the all-electric ID.4, the electric version, called e-Golf, is discontinued for 2021. This year marks the final year for the Golf in the US. Next year a redesigned model comes over only in GTI and R trim. Competitors include the Honda Civic, Hyundai Veloster, Mazda 3 hatchback and Subaru WRX.
The standard Golf comes in TSI trim. GTI is offered S, SE and Autobahn trim. All come with front-wheel drive. Standard on the Golf TSI is a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder that makes 147 horsepower and is paired with wither a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. GTI gets a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that makes 228 horsepower and either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission.
Available driver-assist technology includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, rearview camera with cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, frontal collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high-beam headlights. Pricing ranges from $24,000 to $38,000.
