2021 BMW 5 Series: The BMW 5 Series is a 5-seat luxury car that's only available as a 4-door sedan with rear- or all-wheel-drive (xDrive). It was last redesigned in 2017 and, for 2021, gets a fresh face, improved touchscreen infotainment system and more power. Competitors include the Audi A6, Cadillac CT-5. Jaguar XF, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Volvo S90.

The 5-Series lineup includes the 530i, 530e, 540i, M550i, M5 and M5 Competition. 530 models get a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with the 530i getting 248 horsepower and the 530e plug-in hybrid getting 288 horsepower. 540i gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine that makes 335 horsepower. M550i gets a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that makes 523 horsepower. M models get the same 4.4-liter tuned to 600 and 617 horsepower. An eight-speed automatic is standard across the board. BMW's all-wheel drive, called xDrive, is an option on the 530i, the 530e and the 540i. It's standard on the M550i, M5 and M5 Competition. The EPA estimates you can go about 21 miles on electric power in the 530e before switching to regular hybrid operation.

Available features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, premium audio, Bluetooth, infotainment system with touch screen and gesture control, USB and head-up display. Safety features include blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, backup camera with rear-cross traffic alert, stability control and forward-collision warning. Prices range from $59,000 to $105,000.
